Loganberry Books is excited to announce the launch of a new lecture series on the second Wednesday of the month that connects community members with distinguished individuals working in literature, popular culture and building a better Cleveland. Some are panels, some are interviews, and one session per quarter will be a writing workshop designed to help local writers hone their craft and reach their audience. Here’s the line-up so far:

Borne
Sunday, October 5, 1:00PM
Get into the Halloween spirit with this weekly reading
series during the month of October! Each Sunday, we’ll take
turns reading a ghost story aloud, then have an open
discussion of its themes and how and why it scares us.
Selections may range from the antiquarian chillers of M.R.
James to the more contemporary thrills of Kelly Link.
Moderated by Justin Glanville and Christine Borne. [classics
club]

Perspectives on the Common Core
Wednesday, November 12, 7:00PM
The Common Core is the new standard in our schools, but what
exactly does it mean for educators, librarians, writers, and
students? Three diverse viewpoints come together to talk
about the goals, the realities, and the challenges of
creating exciting curriculum for elementary students. Mrs.
Emily Ellington is a retired teacher from the Cleveland
Public Schools (Harvey Rice) who was part of the beta test
program for the Common Core. Olivia Geaghan is an upper
school librarian at a private school (Hathaway Brown). Come
listen, and participate, in this open discussion. Free.
