Grammy found a great glass-blowing instructor in Manchester, VT. Here, he is adding color to a glass project for Flint.
Flint blows his glass blob for the first step of his glass bowl project
Shaping
Molding
Julia blows the molded glass open. Not sure what Flint is doing with the tongs.
They are removing one pole to create the open top of the bowl.
Into the fire
The open top of the bowl is now hot enough to be spun and fanned out
Flaming the punt mark to melt any sharp edges. Now needs an extended overnight cooling to cure properly
Nathan's turn! He chose to make a glass. The glass is blue, but here appears as a red hot blob.
Shaping
Blowing. You can see the glass blob getting bigger..
...and bigger...
...and bigger.
I think we're forming the base here.
Removing a pole to create the open top of the glass.
Again they put the form into the fire to soften the glass so it can be shaped. The base is blue and the hot glass appears red.
Nathans opens the drinking end with his tongs.
