365 Bedtime Stories NOT by Nan Gilbert There are many other books with this title which are not stories from What-a-Jolly Street.  Most of these don't list an author, some list an illustrator.  Whitman published books with this title in (at least) 1931, 1938, 1944, and 1955, many with variant cover art.  It is possible that Whitman issued this book annually with different cover art, changing the  copyright information only when content information changed.  Here are some examples that I've found, all of them Whiman except for the first one. Childcraft 14 volumes various illustrators Chicago: Field Enterprises, 1949 It would seem that the "Childcraft" series was first published in 1934 by W. F. Quarrie and company, Chicago.  The series was taken over by Field Enterprises, Inc. in 1949, and reprinted throughout the fifties.  The best remembered volume, as least judging by our customer requests, is volume one, which is titled "Book of Verse" in the Quarrie edition and "Poems of Early Chilldhood" in the Field edition.  The earlier edition is illustrated mainly in black and white, with some two- and three-tone.  The Field edition is entirely in color, with such noted illustrators as Eloise Wilkin, Fritz Eichenberg, Milo Winter, and the Walt Disney Studio represented.  The selection of poems is substantially the same, but not entirely, and the poems are ordered differently. 1949 Volume Titles:  Poems of Early Childhood, Storytelling and Other Poems, Folk and Fairy Tales, Animal Friends and Adventures, Life in Many Lands, Great Men and Famous Deeds, Exploring the World Around Us, Creative Play and Hobbies, The Growing Child, Guidance for Development, Ways of Learning, Guide/Index, Art and Music, Science and Industry.

My Bookhouse edited by Olive Beaupre Miller Chicago: The Bookhouse for Children, 1920 My Bookhouse was originally published in 6 thick volumes bound in black cloth with pictorial paste-ons and gilt lettering.  In 1927 (approx.) the six volumes were sold as a set in a wooden house (red roof, two red chimneys, gray walls, and a window at each end).  Housed with it were three volumes of the tallerMy Travelship, consisting of Little Pictures of Japan (by Katharine Sturges, 1925, dark blue), Tales Told in Holland (by Maud and Miska Petersham, 1926, red) and Nursery Friends from France (by Maud and Miska Petersham, 1927, light blue). My Bookhouse was later reprinted in 12 volumes in various colors, the most famous being the "rainbow edition" which begins in a pale green, transitions to dark green, dark blue, and ends in light blue.  There were many printings; here are some of the publication years and binding notes, although there may well be others.   1920, 1921, 1922 6 volumes, black 1925, 1928 6 volumes, green/silver and red 1932, 1934, 1936 6 and 12 volumes, green/silver 1937 12 volumes, navy blue and rainbow   1950, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963 12 volumes, rainbow 1971 reprint by United Educators 12 volumes, white The titles of the 12 volumes are (for the 6 volume set, titles are just the odd numbered ones): In the Nursery, Story Time, Up One Pair of Stairs, Through the Gate, Over the Hill, Through Fairy Halls, The Magic Garden, Flying Sails, The Treasure Chest, From the Tower Window, In Shining Armor and Halls of Fame.  It is very common that volume one is either missing or in tatters.  This is because the set is sequential by age, and the babies who drool over the nursery rhymes often destroy the book, while the 10 and 12 year olds who read volume 12 keep the books in much better shape.
