The Northeast LPO encompasses the counties of Lorain, Medina, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula. Our mission is to defend, advance, and restore the cause of liberty to our region and our nation through the political process of building membership, obtaining relations with the media, organizing our infrastructure, and ultimately fielding and running candidates for public offices.

Unfortunately, Alleen Rose Donohoe of the Constitution Society was unable to adress our September 22nd meeting as scheduled, and we wish her fortunate success in her struggle against the unConstitutional police state that influences our governments today.

Instead, something spontaneous took place - a discussion and debate between two officers-activists in the Libertarian Party of Northeast Ohio. Those activists were Keith Donat (myself) and Dave Macko (our Regional Representative and Life Member of the LP). Issues of debate and discussion included whether or not our party should officially endorse non-Libertarian Party and non-libertarian candidates, whether our candidates should accept matching funds, the degree of free expression involved in campaign contributions, and the importance of opposing democracy.

Dave Macko made the case for endorsing non-Libertarian Party and non-libertarian candidates when Libertarians are absent from the ballot. He was specifically referring to Joe Slovenec, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 10th District. I made the point that we are a political party designed to run candidates for office, and must not involve ourselves with other parties in that respect, especially not the Remocrat Depublican party. We especially should not endorse non-libertarians simply because they are less evil than their opponents. Our goal is not lesser or kinder tyranny, but the full recognition of our God-given rights.

Dave Macko argued that we must oppose democracy as well as advocating liberty, since the United States of America was founded as a republic. Democracy is mob rule, where individual rights are subject to the whims of the majority. However, I pointed out that aristocratic or despotic rule is even worse, where indidividual rights are subject to the whims of tyrants and oligarchies. The Constitution is enforced by men, so under any form of government, the Constitution is threatened. Liberty and democracy are completely different philosophies, but they are NOT opposites. Instead of crusading AGAINST democracy, we ought to crusade FOR liberty.

Dave and I were in full agreement about morally opposing tax-financed campaign matching funds for candidates, and unhampered free ability of individuals and voluntary orginazations to contribute to the candidate of their choice, in whatever amount they choose. Libertarians above all must abide by these principles, or our candidates will be labeled as hypocrites and we cannot trust so-called libertarians who sell-out with taxpayer funds to act with principle when elected to office. That is why most attendants at the meeting shared our sentiments that Murray Sabrin (Libertarian candidate for New Jersey Governor in 1997) was wrong for accepting matching funds, and Harry Browne (our Presidential candidate for 1996 - for those few who aren't aware) was righteous in refusing them.

I must mention that it was a great discussion and debate. Dave insists that he conquered me in the debates with his arguments, which is impossible, because I was triumphant (I know, I couldn't resist!).

Pastor Ernie Sanders of the Doers of the World Baptist Fellowship and the "What's Right, What's Left" Ministries heard daily on WCCD, 1000 AM at 3 PM, will discuss the influence Biblical Law has placed on the writing of the Constitution. He will mention how the idea of personal freedom and personal responsibility is God-inspired, but can only be maintained and maximized by citizens and leaders of high moral standards.

Our regular monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, at Denny's in Parma, (398-7076) on the corner of Rockside Road (Snow Road) and Broadview Road. From I480 turn south on I77 and get off at the first exit called Rockside. Turn right or west on Rockside, continue for about 2 1/2 miles and Denny's is on the right just after crossing Snow Road. Dinner starts between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM, with the speaker starting at 7:00 PM. All of those interested in liberty are welcome.

Also our business meetings on the second Tuesday of the month are held at the same location and time, and are open to all LPO members.

On Saturday, September 12th, regional Libertarian activists Dave Macko and Keith Donat (myself) attended a Freedom Fighter Encampment ,which took place at the Crazy River Ranch in Lodi, Ohio. The campout was conducted by the Northcoast Chapter of NORML (the National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws). Unfortunately, only a few people attended, but that presented me and Dave with a greater opportunity to acquaint with the activists behind NORML, and I learned that most of their members identify pretty well with the philosophy of Libertarianism. I look forward to more encounters with them in the future!

On Saturday & Sunday, September 12th & 13th, local Libertarian activists attended a gun show at the Medina County Community Center, located at 735 Lafayette Road (State Route 42) in Medina. The exhibition was hosted by Conrad & Dowdell, and involved ammunitions, firearms, and several other related paraphanelia as well, including survival kits and political literature. One of the displays included our Operation Politically Homeless booth, where we handed out fine LP literature (both national, and literature generated from our local region), and conducted, as usual, our LPO petition to achieve ballot access for the LP in 2000. Garry Seman, our region's Media Director, operated the booth. Other activists present from the Northeast Region were Mike and Stella Salamone, who host "The State of Decay" radio show on WRUW 91.1 FM (read on for details). Also, Tom Corbett was in attendance from the East Central Region (we cannot thank him enough for assisting our region with his services). Another two Conrad & Dowdell gun shows will occur in 1998 at the Medina County Community Center, which we will attend, so this time, come and participate!

On Saturday, September 26th, numerous Libertarian activists were involved in the "Peace, Love, And Unity" festival, which was sponsored by NORML and occured in Cleveland's public square. As usual, we had plenty of LP and libertarian literature to distribute, as well as the conduct of our continuous ballot drive for party status in 2000. The Peace, Love, and Unity festival featured the pro-marijuana and hemp legalization cause, along with vendors displaying Native American, Native African, and Wiccan arts, crafts, and information for sale. Numerous Libertarian activists attended. From the Northeast Region (our region) I was present, along with Mike and Stella Salamone (host of "The State of Decay" college radio show). The East Central Region gave us Libertarian activists Tom Corbett (always a supporter of our region), Pearl Pullman (also generous to our region), Bob Hart (chair of the Summit-Portage county chapter), Bud McDaniel, Karen Chriswell, Donald Gallick, Chet Sutherland (the East Central Region Chair), and our LPO Chair, Jim Babka.

Other political parties made their presence at the festival as well. Zanna Feitler represented the Natural Law Party (she is also an Independent candidate for Governor of Ohio), and the Worker's Revolutionary Party had a table (We gotta get them before the bastard Communists do - that is why we recently attended the National Day of Protest on October 22nd!). Zanna Feitler spoke to the crowd about her candidacy for governor, and we learned she was just another socialist with nicer communication skills. She had the nerve to tell us hemp smokers that she refuses to legalize marijuana other than for medical purposes (You dope-heads belong in jail! Please vote for me!). After her ode to "problem-free government," our man Donald Gallick adressed the crowd, saying "It is none of the government's damn business what we do with our bodies!" Needles to say, he recieved a considerable amount of applause, and stressed that we are the ONLY political party that sincerely holds that view, on all issues at all times!

OCTOBER 10TH - 11TH:
On Saturday, October 10th, and Sunday, October 11th, our region will be conducting an Operation Politically Homeless booth at the Medina County Community Center. The event is a gun show being hosted by Conrad & Dowdell, and admission is $5 per person. The show will take place from 9 AM until 5 PM both days. Our booth will feature LP literature from the national level, and regional LP literature as well. We will also be conducting our ballot access petition for 2000. Do not miss out on the opportunity to acquaint with fellow persecuted gun owners, and others working to establish greater liberty in our lifetime.

The Medina County Community Center is at 735 Lafayette Road, in the Medina Fairgrounds. Take I-71 North until the Route 18 exit (Lodi/Akron). Go West on Route 18 (I think you make a left), and follow it into downtown Medina, to the square. Follow the signs to Route 42 South/West, until you pass the square and are on Lafayette Road. The Fairgrounds and Community Center is near the turn, and will be on your right.

OCTOBER 20th:
On Tuesday, October 20th, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM, there will be a sign party for our most anticipated anti-UnitedNations protest on Saturday, October 24th - also designated as the revolting U.N. Day.

The Tuesday, October 20th sign party shall take place at Tom Corbett's apartment complex, which is located at 25 Frederick Avenue. Grub and drinks will be made available to Tom's guests.

We need plenty of volunteers to bring sign boards, sticks, markers, staples, and other equipment to prepare for our hopefully massive protest!

His apartment is on the North side of Akron. Off Route 8, exit on Tallmage Road and go west (from 8 North, make a left - from 8 South, make a right). Take Tallmage several streets down until reaching North Howard Street. Make a left at N. Howard, and go 5 streets down to Frederick Ave. on the right - make right, and Tom's apartment is right behind the Alchohol, Drug, and Mental Health (ADMH) building.

His apartment mumber is Apartment #5.

Remember: Sign party for the U.N. Protest - the Sign Party takes place at 25 Frederick Ave. on Tuesday, October 20th starting at 7:00 PM. Food and refreshments available to all who attend!!

October 21th:
On Wednesday, October 21st, Robert Levy of the Cato Institute will be speaking on the Antitrust Lawsuit against Microsoft.

The event will take place at the Marshal Law School, at 1801 Euclid Avenue, in Cleveland, room #237. The speech occurs from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM.

OCTOBER 22ND:
On Thursday, October 22nd, our region will be participating in the annual National Day of Protest to occur in downtown Cleveland. The rally is being sponsored by the Refuse and Resist campaign, and the theme of it revolves around police brutality and our criminal "justice" system. We are planning to represent the Northeast Region with local literature, as well as national LP literature, by establishing an OPH booth. We will, as usual, be conducting our ballot petition drive for 2000, and we need your help, so don't miss out! Let victims of police brutality, and their families, know there is a political party for them!

OCTOBER 24TH:
On Saturday, October 24th, our region will be gathering with other concerned citizens to protest the presence of a United Nations flag located in Richfield, Ohio. The main theme shall be our opposition to the U.S. involvement in the U.N. (especially since the U.N. is a Communist, World-Power organization). In addition, we'll be taking advantage of the rally to operate an OPH booth, handing out literature and conducting our ballot petition drive for 2000. George Baluk, or regional Chair, and Garry Seman, our regional Media Director, will appear Friday, September 22nd, on Norm Ezzi's "We the People." The show is aired on WERE 1300 AM, and it takes place every Friday from 9 AM until 11 AM. Every month, Mr. Baluk and Mr. Seman appear on Norm's radio program the Friday which takes place just before ourmonthly membership meetings (which occur on the fourth Tuesday of every month). The show is reserved once a month for local Libertarians who wish to represent the Libertarian Party, and our agenda of restoring liberty for our six counties, Ohio, and America. Be sure to tune in!
