The Northeast LPO encompasses the counties of Lorain, Medina, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula. Our mission is to defend, advance, and restore the cause of liberty to our region and our nation through the political process of building membership, obtaining relations with the media, organizing our infrastructure, and ultimately fielding and running candidates for public offices.
On Tuesday, March 23rd, our meeting was adressed by LPO Chair Jim Babka, who gave his report on the progress of the Libertarian Party at the state level. Mr. Babka will be seeking a second term as Chair for the Libertarian Party of Ohio.
Mr. Babka noted that we are gaining ground in our Ballot Petition drive, with 48,000 signatures to date (closing towards our goal of 65,000 signatures). For those not willing to invest the time to collect the signatures to place the LP on the Ohio Ballot, Mr. Babka offered the option of contributing dollars to allocate toward their collection. The average cost per signature at our rate is 27 cents. That means just 270 dollars obtains 1,000 signatures!
But, most importantly, Mr. Babka noted that we must run effective local grassroots campaigns for our party to develop. Everywhere you look, where strong Libertarian grassroots candidacies exist, Libertarian candidates for statewide or Presidential offices get a much greater-than-average percentage of their vote. This phenomenon is referred to as the "Reverse Coatails Effect," and it demonstrates the need to develop County Chapters within the Northeast Region.
We will be present on the Ohio ballot, and County Chapters are springing up more than ever, so in summary, the State of the Libertarian Party of Ohio is good! Please make it better by attending our meetings, as listed below.
On Tuesday, April 27th, Mrs. Helen Hobbs will discuss the Alexander Technique, which teaches you how to improve your personal habits and your relation to others, leading to a fuller life and ultimately spreading libertarian ideas to others. The technique helps increase your personal energy level, and lead yourself and others to accept voluntary interaction with others, instead of coercion.
Our regular monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, at Denny's in Parma, (398-7076) on the corner of Rockside Road (Snow Road) and Broadview Road. From I480 turn south on I77 and get off at the first exit called Rockside. Turn right or west on Rockside, continue for about 2 1/2 miles and Denny's is on the right just after crossing Snow Road. Dinner starts between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM, with the speaker starting at 7:00 PM. All of those interested in liberty are welcome.
Our next Business Meeting takes place Tuesday, April 13th, at Denny's. Dinner begins at 6 PM, and the meeting is brought to order at 7 PM. The Business meeting is always held on the second Tuesday of every month. All members in the Northeast Region of the LPO are welcome to attend and vote on the various items of our monthly agenda. At this meeting, we will hold our annual elections for Chair, Regional Representative, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as the confirmation for appointment for various offices. Every LP member residing in the Northeast Region of the LPO is entitled to a vote, so BE THERE!
