absolute
favourite when I was a little girl. I am not sure if it was in an
anthology
or if it was its own story book. The book is about a little squirrel
named
Suzy who llived in an oak tree. Everyday she collected nuts and sang
this
little song "Oh I love to cook, I love to bake, I think I'll make an
acorn
cake." The mean grey(?) squirrels attacked her because they wanted her
acorn cake, but a collection of toy soldiers from a nearby attic saved
her.
A story about a squirrel (possibly named
"Mrs.
Squirrel") who has trouble with a nutcake-stealing bear (possibly named
Bruno).
I have three triplet nieces who are 4
and feed
a family of squirrels everyday. I remember this book as a child and I
am
now looking for it for them!!

it to my granddaughter now.

had a hard time locating one since it is out of print.

My wife and I both remember Suzy

our childhood...we just don't know who

what the actual book name was. I would love to find a copy and

It was a picture book about a female
squirrel
who moved into a new place (possible a doll house or a tree) and cleans
it. A spider is in it and the squirrel scares it away.

The main character in the book is a
little boy
named Henry. As one might guess from the title, Five
Pennies
to Spend, he has five pennies to spend. If my memory
serves
correctly, it is a Little Golden Book or a book of similar size from
the
early to mid-1950's.
A friend read 5 Pennies to Spend
to my son's first-grade class and he came home talking about how nice
it
was. My friend says this book is so good that she can't believe
it's
out of print. I think it is an old-timey story about generosity
and
the beauty of sharing.
I think the gray squirrel is the good
one, the
red squirrels are bad...I remember the squirrel hiding in a dollhouse
and
using toy soldiers to help him fight off the bad squirrels ...
My children and I love Miss Suzy.
Miriam Young is awesome, and Arnold Lobel is as well. We would
love
other books by Miriam Young. Is Miss Suzy's
Easter Surprise still in
print?
Jellybeans for Breakfast!
Many of my friends and I fondly remember this book and would love to
share
it with our daughters. Unfortunately it is no longer in print and
poor condition used copies start at $80.
I hope this is one more desperate plea
among many
more to bring Miss Suzy by
Miriam Young back into print.
It
is a delightful book. My 5 year-old daughter enjoys it today as I
did back in the 1960's when I was her age. Almost any book illustrated
by Arnold Lobel is too charming NOT to be available to young readers
today.

I was given Miss Suzy by my neighbor years ago and I used to read it to
my 3 year old granddaughter. I loved the book and my
granddaughter
would ask me to read it again, and again, and again, and so I would. I
lost the book somewhere along the way and must have it again for myself
(I'm 63) and for my new granddaughter who is 5 months old. The
story
is about Suzy Squirrel who first found her way to an attic and met toy
soldiers and then made a home in a tree where bad squirrels destroyed
her
home.

My mom used to read this story to me every night before bed, I think I
almost drove her crazy asking over and over "can you read it again!".
She
always read it, even if she was tired. I lost my old copy somewhere
over
the years, my guess is I read it until nothing was left of the book.
The
story is still clear in my mind. When ever I think of "miss Suzy" I
feel
like a little girl again. I remember cuddling up to my mom while she
read
the book over and over without rushing through. I have a little girl of
my own now, I can't wait to buy the book. I'm so excited to read
it to her. She too can experience one of the best childrens novels ever
published just as I did.

I purchaed the 40th annivsary book and have read it to my two boys they
just loved it. I found Miss Suzy's Easter Surprise and I am
desperately
trying to find a reasonabley good condition copy of Miss Suzy's
Birthday.

Five Pennies To Spend.
My
grandma used to read this book to me. I've treasured it as an adult now
that she has passed on. I've recently become a new mother and read the
story to my son. I hope that he someday will treasure it too.
For years now, I've been looking for a
copy of
one of my favorite Miriam Young books, that I read as a child,
for
my granddaughter... Jellybeans for Breakfast. I've seen
for
the past few years how high the sales are going for just the few that
are
still out there, and kept wondering why with the book being so popular
still, that someone didn't have it re-circulated/published again. My
mission
for the day, was to try and track down Ms Young and ask her that
question,
not knowing that she'd passed on. :-/ While searching, I noticed that
one
of the Miss Suzy books has been re-published. I'm not sure if you are
the
person I should ask, but I thought having looked at the loganberry
website,
you'd be the perfect one to ask...Is there anyone out there who plans
to
re-publish Jellybeans for Breakfast??? I have a feeling
that once word got out, that it would be
flying
off the shelves... purchased by new fans and classic fans like me as
well.

I used to read this book to my children

This is the year 2003 and this story is timeless! I bought this simple
golden classic at a garage sale and it's priceless to me! My son loves
it and has me read it to him all the time. it teaches good values,to
share,get
for your friends who may be less forunate and just a good book to share
with your child. I wish everybody could read it.

Last night I was just reading Miss Suzy to my 6 and 2 year old and it
still
captivates the imagination. I used to play Miss Suzy in the tree in my
front yard as a child. In re-reading this special book I realized
how much Miss Suzy formed my life--I too love being a homemaker and
getting
my house in order! On a whim I searched the web this morning to see
what
info might be available on the author and here was your website. It's
been
fun reading these comments. I too received many books from the
parents
press book club as a child. My Mom never throws out books so I
still
have all our original copies of Miss Suzy, Miss Twiggley's Tree,

reason) been stumped for years on the Mrs. Squirrel book I remember my
grandmother reading to me as a small child. Why do so many think
it's Mrs. Squirrel instead of Mrs. Suzy is puzzling to me. I
